Climate Change's Effects on the Economy

Hi Guys! I hope you are doing well! Life throws plenty of curveballs with climate change, omicron, and many more. I thought today's post should be about climate change's effects on the economy. We hear about inflation, rising prices, fewer crops, and many more. This post will build on the impacts I wrote about in other posts, such as oceans, deforestation, and agriculture. Let's get started...

The economy is the basis of our society, and if that crumbles, everything will fall apart. This is the truth. Climate change significantly impacts the economy and does even though. It does affect our economy indirectly. Rises in prices could lead to more starvation and homeless people. Since agriculture is worsening, this can raise food prices because there is a lack of produce. Lack of produce contributes to lack of adequate food and healthy animals and people. Climate change worsens the income inequalities between people. In California, its central valley is affected by climate change, affecting California's overall agriculture economy. Rising Central Valley temperatures discourage farmers from farming because of the extreme and prolonged conditions. This makes the farmers make difficult decisions, choosing if they should continue or not. Agriculture is a vast part of today's society because it provides jobs for many people. As temperatures increase, crops will have to depend on more water, and there is a lack of water. Increasing temperatures increase dry vegetation, allowing fires to increase and have a more devastating impact. In some areas, rising precipitation and snow can cause crops to die, decreasing the number of crops, allowing less adequate food and fewer healthy people. Since climate change increases the number of diseases because of extreme temperatures, this can impact the economy significantly. With COVID-19, there is a lot of inflation and supply shortages, causing prices to rise and making it harder for people to survive and thrive. Think about how climate change allows infectious and dangerous diseases to spread. In that case, inflation and supply shortages will become a bigger problem in the future, affecting all parts of the economy significantly because now, with COVID-19, there are supply chain issues and supply shortages.

More ocean pollution can affect many marine organisms that we eat, such as fish, once the plastic becomes microplastics due to the heat. When fish consume the microplastic, the plastic can affect them and the consumer that eats the fish. For example, humans eat fish, which consume microplastics, causing cancer and other dangerous diseases. When deforestation contributes to climate change, it can also destroy lands with helpful resources. There could be a lack of supplies due, which are created by these resources. This affects several parts of the economy, such as housing. The biggest ice glacier, the doomsday glacier, in Antarctica is slowly melting and could devastate business, markets, crops, land, and people in five years. This is a major incentive to support the cause to save the Earth 🌍 from climate change. Overall, climate change could change the economy for the worse. Some things you can do to prevent the doomsday glacier from melting are:

  • You can recycle plastic water bottles and bags, which have the recycle sign on them.

  • You can also help with clean clean-ups. There are plenty of clean-ups for beaches, roads, and many more.

  • You can educate people.

  • You can use less plastic.

  • You can walk or bike. When you walk or bike, you don't release carbon emissions. In worst cases, use public transportation because many people use it, and it doesn't release more carbon dioxide.

  • You can plant plants.

  • You can conserve water to have water left, like taking 5-minute showers. You can buy reusable stuff, so you don't need to use too much plastic. You can participate in peaceful protests.

  • You can also talk to people who have more knowledge about climate change so that you can tell other people.

  • You can put a bucket in the shower when you shower, so you can use that water for your plants or clean something up.

  • You can buy local produce.

  • You can build a garden and grow fresh produce.

  • You can buy organic produce.

Try to make a difference and have a merry Christmas!
