What Is Food Waste And How It Contributes to Climate Change?

Hey guys, I hope you are doing well. I have not been posting lately because of transferring my website, school applications, and many more. Anyways, enough about me. I thought today's post would be about food waste and how it contributes to climate change. Let's get started...

We waste so much food every day, and we do not realize that. Every time we eat food, we waste some part of the food. This applies to most people. 1.3 billion tons of food are thrown every year by businesses, farms, companies, and people. All of this food waste equals 32.6 million cars' greenhouse emissions. Once the food goes to waste, it releases methane, a greenhouse gas, especially harmful to every living organism. Who would want to breathe in methane? I would especially not want to. When you think of it, manufacturing, packaging, growing, and transporting food release so much carbon dioxide, and then we waste it. It goes to no use. We just waste so much food every day, releasing so much carbon dioxide. Not only does this affect us, but it also affects all of the ecosystems on Earth. Even if we damage ourselves, it does not matter. We should not hurt other organisms. Most of the food is rejected because it's not perfect. This also wastes more energy and releases more carbon dioxide. Some wasted products give off more carbon dioxide than others, such as meat and dairy. Lack of refrigeration, setting aside small parts of food, and cheap produce results in food waste. Why should we be so judgemental of cheap produce? Good products can be cheap. You can help reduce food waste by making compost, eating up all of your food, and giving unwanted food to food organizations. Some other ways you help change climate change:

  • You can recycle plastic water bottles and bags, which have the recycle sign on them.

  • You can also help with clean clean-ups. There are plenty of clean-ups for beaches, roads, and many more.

  • You can also help with clean clean-ups. There are plenty of clean-ups for beaches, roads, and many more.

  • You can educate people.

  • You can use less plastic.

  • You can walk or bike. When you walk or bike, you don't release carbon emissions. In worst cases, use public transportation because many people use it, and it doesn't release more carbon dioxide.

  • You can plant plants.

  • Make compost.

  • You can conserve water to have water left, like taking 5-minute showers. You can buy reusable stuff, so you don't need to use too much plastic. You can participate in peaceful protests.

  • You can also talk to people who have more knowledge about climate change so that you can tell other people.

  • You can put a bucket in the shower when you shower, so you can use that water for your plants or clean something up.

  • You can buy local produce.

  • You can build a garden and grow fresh produce.

  • You can buy organic produce.

Thanks for reading, and stay safe,
